EMAIL #1 sent on 02/09/06
Good evening, all,
whew.... ok, a moment to sit. First and foremost, thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and kind words of encouragement. My mother and I have been with Erica at Brigham and Women's Hospital since 11am this morning with many developments throughout the day. The basic information that I can offer right now is that she has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) and is currently undergoing aggressive treatments. There have been more tests than I can share and already two rounds of chemotherapy. She is SOOOO strong and immensely brave. Yes, there is plenty more to share but it will have to wait as I promised her I would be back in her room within the hour. I promise to continue the updates. This will be a long road.. she is in the hospital for at least one month before they can release her and after which there will be years of treatment. She gets every message,
every text, and I think she feels all the good will being sent her way! For now, my mother and I will remain in Boston most likely until the month is through at which time I will most likely find us an apartment. Luke is here with us and ideally with each of us sharing rounds, she will never be alone in her room. :) Thank you again for all your prayers---keep 'em coming!
Much love,
Jaci

My Dearest Erica,
I went to Church yesterday- can you imagine, your Aunt Lillian going to Church- I did that only with the assurance that my prayers are still good and will not backfired.
You are so brave and I am so very proud of you. As your Mum always said, you are so much like me. Brave outside but scared inside, but more importantly a real fighter. You have a lot of comrades in arm fighting this together. I love you.
Your one and only Auntie Lillian

Reeeeca, it's me! I know your incredible spirit is still intact and helping you through this insane time. I'm sure all the love you sprinkle--or I should more accurately say, madly deposit-- all over the place is making it's way back to you! Well, thank goodness we're finally near each other again, you globetrotting freakazoid! I'm just a chinatown busride away now (which is and will be my favored method of transport for at least 5 more pay raises), so I am coming to say hallohallo. Til then, be good and rest easy... and try to lay off the karaoke while yer at it? :O)

Love love and toodloo for now,
Jo

Erica,

Remember what Thomas Paine once wrote, "The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph." We eagerly await to celebrate together, without a modicum of doubt, your glorious triumph.

Hey Erica,
I know that I haven't seen you in hmmmm, about 6 years (or so), but I want you to know that I am thinking about you and that you are in my prayers. I know that something uplifting would be best right now, but this is as best as I could do at the moment. You are surrounded by people who love you so much and in a place where the best treatment is given. Be brave and don't lose sight of what comes after you beat this.

Keep Smiling,
Kara June

Hey Erica -
We are so hopeful for you. You look absolutely beautiful in your pictures....we are sure you are going to get excellent care because the Dr's won't be able to stay away from your room:)
We have a good friend who was diagnosed with AML last year and is cancer free and doing awesome.
Prayers and a positive attitude are key! Know that there is nothing that God can't do...his power is limitless. Tap into it!
I can't wait to see you in Alias wigs and hairdo's - you are going to surpass Jennifer Garner for sure -
Lots of love and kisses, Jon and Tina, Ethan and Talia Giannini

Dear Erica,

Please know that many at Oxy were shocked & saddened to hear of your illness. However, this is a time in your life when you will begin to have an inkling of how many people love & care for you. I can still picture your beautiful smile in my minds eye & I was delighted to see Jamie by your bedside, both of you smiling. God bless you Erica. You are in the hearts & prayers of many.

Lots of love,

Diane Verlinde

Dear Erica: I, too, have been sort of praying. Since I am sort of an agnostic, my prayers must have meant more. I am very pleased that you are doing so well. Looking at your photo is very reassuring because you still have that ebullient smile. Keep it up. Love you, my dear almost-niece. Roland

Dear Erica - Greetings from Denver, Colorado. It's been awhile since we dined in Solvang over some "Split Pea Soup". I'm praying/hoping/wishing you're gaining strength each day as my family continues to keep you and your family in our prayers. Please look for a card from my family (Yes, my wife and I had our first child, Kateri Naphaa on 9/30/2005). I'm looking forward to hearing more about your progress and yourself in general sometime soon.

With All Our Love,
The Trujillo's (Gordon, Chontel & Kateri)

Dear Erica,

It’s been a while since I last saw you at the Oxy Alumni Office, but Niki and I just wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you and your family and hope you are gaining strength from all the love and support around you. With your tenacious spirit and so many people pulling for you, I’m sure you’ll beat this! I just spoke to Kathy Kwon and she’s going to come give you a hug for us.

Love,
Pinki and Niki Tank
